What are brown rats?
Brown rats, also called Norway rats, are common in coastal, urban areas such as the Gold Coast. They’re bigger than other introduced rodents, like the house mouse or black rat and love waterways, earning their other common name, the water rat. Brown rats can become aggressive if provoked, so if you see a live one, call us immediately.
Females have an average of 3 to 7 litters per year. Brown rats can squeeze through a hole smaller than 2cm in diameter and can climb up pipes, jumping as high as a metre.
